ABOUT PHIL MINNAAR, THE AUTHOR
The author of The Positive Dictionary, Phil Minnaar, and his wife, Adeline, live in Campbell River in Canada. They immigrated from South Africa to Canada in September 2002.
He describes his background and interests as follows:
I have a very wide interest in the endless variety of fascinating elements of life: the body, the mind, the spirit, human behaviour, family, interrelationships, career, nature, science, literature, art, music, etc, etc. My interests cover the whole spectrum of life.
In High School I was privileged to have had two wonderul teahers, my science teacher, Mr Gouws, and my teacher in Afrikaans (my home language), Mr Combrink. Mr Gouws instilled in me the love for science and Mr Combrink the love for language. With their enthusiasm for their subjects they became role models for me until this day and I gladly pay homage to them.
Today my qualifications are in the sciences and my love for language is expressed in my articles and short stories. For many years I was fortunate to be the News Editor on a part-time basis of Archimedes, a science magazine for high schools. There I was able to combine the loves for science and language.
I have discovered two ways of thinking to make sense of all of the fascinating complexities of life. They are:
* systems thinking, where everything is seen as interconnected and parts of one whole and
* a positive attitude towards life in general to observe and appreciate the complexities of human behaviour.
All of this led me eventually to write and publish The Positive Dictionary. In this book I share my views on the importance of a positive approach to life in order to understand and cope with the complexities of life.
Phil Minnaar published The Positive Dictionary on 27 November 2006 by means of self-publishing.
