What is the deeper meaning of the word 'grateful'?

Starting with the letter G, the word ‘Grateful.’

The word ‘Grateful’ is explained as follows in The Positive Dictionary:

Grateful: Be grateful for what is bestowed on you.

* Gratitude is a reflection of appreciation for what you have received.

It seems almost natural for people to complain. Ask people ‘How are you doing?' and many will say ‘Not too bad.’ Even if things are good the feeling is that it is not quite bad, but still not good.’

When you are asked, “How are you doing?’ say ‘excellent’ and see the person’s reaction of amazement, as though there is something wrong with you.

Feeling ‘excellent’ is essentially an expression of gratitude for what one has received and is still receiving. Gratitude is appreciation for receiving good things undeservedly, things like health, family, friends, mental abilities and much more.

There is the story about the man who was constantly complaining about all the problems in his life. Nothing was ever right or good. One morning he woke up and could not think of a single problem. That whole day everything was perfect. Everything went smoothly. There was not even a slight problem or a slight worry about anything. The next day it was the same. That whole week and that whole month it was the same: not the slightest problem.

After six months of no problems he fell on his knees and prayed. ‘Lord, please give me problems!!

We have much to be grateful for.
